McNEELY, Thomas J., Sr. Of Dedham, 79, died peacefully at his home in Dedham, on Nov. 8, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. McNeely was born in Boston, a son of the late John & Mary (Kearney) of Dorchester. He was a Veteran of the US Coast Guard, having served on board the CGC Eastwind, which crossed the Artic Circle. Upon his discharge from the USCG, Mr. McNeely attended Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. Tom was retired from the former Charles Gilman & Sons after a long career in sales. He was a communicant of St. Susanna Parish in Dedham for many years and a member of the Dedham Retirement Club. Tom was an avid reader of non fiction, enjoying the histories of Ireland and America as well as anything to do with the ocean and ships. He was a self-taught and skilled woodworker, having perfected his hobby during his retirement. He could always be found “in his shop” where he enjoyed his craft until very recently, having made many treasured items for family and friends alike. Tom’s greatest love was that of his family and spending as much time as he could at family gatherings. He never missed an opportunity to spend a day or an hour with his children and grandchildren. He is survived and will be sorely missed by his children, Theresa & her husband John Donovan of East Bridgewater, Gina McNeely & her spouse Lisa Hebert of Conway, Mass, Heather McNeely of Dedham, and his daughter in law Kathleen McNeely of Plymouth. Mr. McNeely was predeceased by his sons Thomas J. McNeely Jr. & Timothy R. McNeely. He was the brother of Margaret Scholl & her husband Paul of Weymouth, brother in law of Eunice McNeely of Plymouth & brother of the late Daniel McNeely. He will be missed by his nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, ten nieces and nephews and many cousins. Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM, Monday at 8 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Susanna Church, Dedham, at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
